How We Made Sleeping on a Cruise Ship Work with Two Kids

After our last vacation, I shared where our son slept when we stayed in a hotel—and it completely blew up. It went viral - apparently people had a lot of opinions on it! But what I took from it was that parents are hungry for real-life travel sleep solutions that actually work.
When winter break rolled around and we went a family cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line, I was a little worried about my kid's sleeping arrangement.
The Sleeping Arrangement on a Cruise
Our 16-month-old had to share a cabin with his older sister. At home, they each have their own rooms, and while they’re both great sleepers, I had a few very real concerns:
Would they wake each other up?
How would naps work if my daughter wanted the light on?
Would early mornings derail everyone’s sleep?
Could we make a shared space feel calm, dark, and familiar?
If you’ve ever traveled with kids, you know how quickly sleep disruptions can turn a vacation into pure exhaustion.
The Solution That Made All the Difference
To give each child their own “room” within the cabin, we used the SlumberPod—and it was honestly perfect.
We placed it over our pack-and-play to create a completely separate sleep environment for our toddler. The blackout design gave us exactly what we needed:
Total darkness, even in a bright cabin
Freedom for my daughter to turn on a light during naps or in the morning
No visual stimulation for my toddler
Inside the SlumberPod’s interior pockets, we added:
The result? He slept like a log; an absolute dream.

Why the SlumberPod Worked So Well for Travel
What I loved most is how travel-friendly it was. It:
Fit perfectly around the pack-and-play
Was lightweight and easy to pack and take on the plane
Took just minutes to set up
Created a familiar, consistent sleep space in a totally new environment
As a sleep consultant and a mom, I’m very picky about what I recommend—and this truly checked every box.
We could not be happier with how it worked, and it gave us peace of mind knowing both kids were sleeping well without disturbing each other.
Thinking About Traveling with Kids Soon?
If you’re planning a trip and worried about sleep—especially in shared spaces—this setup can be a total game changer.
